Ultiworld Interview: Garuda

Despite only forming a team for the USA Ultimate Series, Garuda (Cambridge) made a splash in 2011, losing only twice at Regionals: once to Ironside (Boston), the eventual second place finishers at Nationals, and once to PoNY (New York), a perennial powerhouse. Those losses left them in fifth place without a trip to Florida for Nationals.

But the team is back for a full season this year, and at this weekend’s Chesapeake Open, Garuda came in as the one seed. They would go undefeated until they fell in the finals to Cash Crop (Raleigh) 13-10, missing out on the bid to the elite Chesapeake Invite later this month.

We spoke to Damien Lazar, Garuda’s captain, on Saturday about his squad’s 2012 season, the upcoming Series, and more:
