Poll Shows Desire For NexGen & USAU Partnership

USA Ultimate and NexGen.After two days of voting, our poll about people’s desired outcomes from the current club ultimate shakeup has some definitive answers. Of course, this is entirely unscientific, but it offers a glimpse into the general feeling among the engaged ultimate community. Answer choices were presented randomly to avoid bias.

Out of over 600 votes, 78% percent of respondents said they want some form of a partnership between NexGen and USA Ultimate, with 56% of those people in favor of NexGen having most of the control over the 18-team elite league that they proposed.

All other options were far behind this. 8% of people think that NexGen should just run their own league with no partnership with USAU. 8% prefer that USAU dramatically reformulates its club structure and that teams stay with them, leaving out NexGen.

Only 5% want teams to stick with USAU’s Triple Crown Tour as it currently stands.

We also had a few interesting submitted ideas, including NexGen’s league having a relegation/promoted system with USA Ultimate. The top 3 finishers in the USAU Club Championships would move into the NexGen league; the bottom three from NexGen would move down into USAU.

A few people, including this writer, thought that NexGen should partner with the American Ultimate Disc League or Major League Ultimate.

At this point, everything hinges on the discussions between USA Ultimate and the 18 teams who have signed letters of intent signaling interest in Kevin Minderhout’s NexGen proposal. We await word from the initial meeting, which is set to happen this week.
