Washington Players Currently Attempting To Play World’s Longest Ultimate Game

Two years ago, Zack Ranck asked himself if there was a world record for the longest ultimate game ever played. A quick Google search later, he had his answer: yes. In 2010, 30 players gathered in Nebraska for an 80 hour, 15 minute, 13 second marathon session.

Ranck wanted to do that one better. So after two years of thinking about it, he finally started to pull together the logistics needed to make it happen.

He set up a Facebook page to gather interested players, unsure of whether or not people would want to play.

Despite cold weather in the forecast, he gathered a group of 30 players to play in Cheney, Washington, for 85 hours straight.

“The format is a series of games to 17 points,” said Ranck. “We started our timer at 9:50 AM on Friday and are going until 10:50 PM on Monday.”

That means they are about 72 hours in as of the publication of this article. They have a livestream channel setup where you can watch some of the game, although it’s not much to see.

The players are playing in 12 hour shifts, with 8 hour breaks to rest. Considering that it’s 31 degrees right now in Cheney, it’s a grueling experience.

“You have to do a lot of running,” Michael Leacham told a local news station. “I think we figured out it’s about three or four marathons over this whole thing that we are doing.”

If they are successful, we will have a follow-up story about their feat.
