For the second year in a row, Oregon takes the overall #1 seed in both divisions. Both teams came up short last season: the men’s team lost in semifinals; the women’s team lost in finals.

As always, thanks to some upsets at Regionals, simply advancing out of pool play will be a challenge for even the top teams at the tournament. Particularly on the Open Division side, where parity is greater than ever, the pools are intimidating.

Here is a look at the Open Division pools (overall seeding is in parentheses):

POOL APOOL BPOOL CPOOL D
Oregon (1)Wisconsin (2)North Carolina (3)Pittsburgh (4)
Colorado (8)Carleton (7)Central Florida (6)Texas (5)
Dartmouth (12)Harvard (11)Ohio (10)UNC-Wilmington (9)
Georgia (13)Florida State (14)UC Davis (15)Arizona (16)
Washington (17)Cornell (18)Luther (19)Illinois (20)

Ultiworld’s seeding predictions had only one difference — Luther as the 17 seed. Instead, they fall below Washington and Cornell to the 19th spot.

Here is a look at the Women’s Division pools (overall seeding is in parentheses):

POOL APOOL BPOOL CPOOL D
Oregon (1)Carleton (2)Iowa State (3)Iowa (4)
Wisconsin (8)British Columbia (7)Ohio State (6)Tufts (5)
Stanford (12)Georgia (11)Virginia (10)Washington (9)
Minnesota (13)UC Santa Barbara (14)Central Florida (15)Texas (16)
Northeastern (17)Northwestern (18)Whitman (19)Ottawa (20)

Compared to our seeding predictions, there are surprisingly few differences, particularly considering the difficulty of the seeding with little connectivity between many teams. Tufts and Iowa are swapped at the 4/5 spot, Washington and Wisconsin are swapped at the 8/9 spot, and USA Ultimate didn’t think Minnesota’s resume earned them a three seed in a pool.

Stay tuned for preview coverage of Nationals, including scouting reports of top teams, features, pool analysis, and more from Ultiworld’s staff.
