We are very proud to announce that Jeremy Weiss and Sean Childers, Ultiworld’s statistics editors, have had a research paper accepted to MIT’s Sloan Conference, the most prestigious in sports analytics.
The paper — titled ‘Spatial Statistics To Evaluate Player Contribution in Ultimate’ — was one of eight selected to be presented as a poster, along side the eight finalists who will present a talk and compete for a $20,000 prize.
The biggest names in the world of sports analytics will be in attendance; Weiss will represent Ultiworld and present the lone paper from an “alternative” sport. As you might expect, most of the leading research is being done in basketball and baseball.

The paper goes deeper on a number of concepts that have already been introduced on Ultiworld, including Expected Contribution, scoring maps, and scoring probability based on field position and opponent strength. You can read much more by checking out the Statistics tag page.
