Last week, USA Ultimate announced a new alliance with the Boy Scouts of America as a partner in their SCOUTStrong Healthy Living Initiative.
USAU is giving out free “Learn To Play” kits — which contain 10 discs, cones, a clinic guide, and more — to scout leaders that request them. Ultimate already has its own page on the SCOUTStrong website with information about the sport, Spirit of the Game, learn to play kits, where to play, and more.
Positive results from the new partnership have come swiftly:
“Here at the BSA, we are committed to promoting healthy, active lifestyles through our SCOUTStrong Healthy Living Initiative, and we’re excited to further these goals in teaming with USA Ultimate,” said BSA Strategic Innovation Manager David Roberts in a statement. “Ultimate is a great way to encourage physical fitness and fun, while also teaching good sportsmanship and teamwork through USA Ultimate’s Spirit of the Game principles, which are very similar to our Scout Oath and Scout Law.”
USAU says that the organization’s recent membership in the US Olympic Committee made the BSA alliance possible. One of the key points of emphasis at the time USAU announced their recognition by the USOC was the increased access to other multi-sport organization members like the Boy Scouts and YMCA.
Ultimate has already been a part of BSA in the past. Up until a program overhaul this summer, Cub Scouts could earn an ultimate pin and belt loop for completing various requirements.
