Tonight, we took the unusual step of taking an article down from Ultiworld.
“The Top 10 Freshman Classes In The College Men’s Division” (its Women’s Division counterpart remains up) was removed from publication due to a number of factual inaccuracies.
Although much of the article was correct, particularly about the top recruits to some of the more prominent programs, there were far too many small errors and omissions that we discovered after publication.
We apologize for posting an article that should have been more thoroughly fact checked. Unfortunately, in some content areas (particularly surrounding youth ultimate), fact checking is extremely difficult and time-consuming due to the lack of available public information about teams. That is not an excuse, of course, but a reminder that we can always hold ourselves to higher standards of accuracy in our reporting.
The decision to publish the article was mine, and I take responsibility for publishing something prematurely. We plan to address our processes to avoid similar problems in the future.
Thank you for reading Ultiworld, and we hope to continue to be a source of high quality, accurate news and analysis about ultimate.
